Can children really do yoga?
Absolutely! Children are the perfect yoga students, because they are spontaneous, full of energy and enjoy life. Adults take yoga classes to learn how to do what children do effortlessly: Live in the moment.
Because yoga influences the body, mind and spirit connection, it supports concentration, flexibility, coordination. In the 3 - 7 year old age group, body awareness is a key element to helping children and parents have fun while getting fit, learning about themselves and others. Yoga poses are playful and imagination is celebrated.
With pre-teens, body awareness becomes more about body-image and self-esteem. Tweens are going through stress from mandated tests at school, peer pressure and body/hormonal changes in their bodies. Pre-teens need and can benefit from yoga more than any other age group. This class focuses on the alignment and breath in yoga poses as well as helping each student find balance between individuality, self-acceptance and both the serious and the silly within oneself.
